GIS Information Portals
In Abu Dhabi, government entities have invested heavily in GIS technology and geospatial data to meet their own organizational needs. This timely collection, preservation, and distribution of relevant geospatial data are critical to maintain the emirate's spatial data infrastructure and ensure the smooth running of its many governmental and commercial activities. Now, the emirate is in an excellent position to leverage that investment by fascilitating the sharing of geospatial data among government agencies and other stakeholders. The ADSIC needed to have an open access to high quality and up to date geographic information and spatially enabled e-government services. Accordingly, the ADSIC wanted to gather all the Abu Dhabi data and maps with different accessability priviledges in a geospatial portal.
The operations team at the Spatial Data Center (SDC) is utilizing the ArcGIS suite of software for data processing, data review, and assessment, publication of map services, and GIS analysis and cartography for special projects.
Esri technology has also been used in developing the AD-SDI clearinghouse and associated metadata catalog and the supportinng services based on ArcGIS servcer technology and the REST and SOAP interfaces, in addition to mobile GIS applications based on the ArcGIS Mobile solution. Other map viewers were built using Flex and Java APIs.
About GeoSpatial Database
Through the National Spatial Database Infrastructure, GIS organizations can publish their own data via maps & metadata services, and search for data available at other agencies as well. The NSDI is available to private, public, and commercial users, , in addition to data publishers, and service providers as well. The data services can be used over the internet/intranet for those agencies and organizations that require authorized access to information. Content may be provided in the form of raw data, maps, or metadata services, dealing with for example, lifestyle mapping, climate modeling, real-time weather reports, address geocoding, network routing..the possibilities are endless
